Mojtaba Nakhjavani ,
The Son of Morteza Nakhjavani
was born in Iran (Tabriz) in 1959.
His
father who was tutored by Mir Mosavver-e Arzhangy and
AliMuhammad-e Heidarian who in one of the most popular
artists in Tabriz. Firouz, Mojtaba's uncle was also a
painter. It seems that the Artistic talent runs in the
blood of the family.
Beside
his father , Mojtaba grew to like painting and showed a
deep and immense interest in his father's work.
Morteza
noticed his son's ability and creative talent; so worked
on
developing Mojtaba skills.
After
completing his secondary education, Mojtaba decided to
continue his studies, not in Art but in mechanics ! He
continued his course in the Technical Faculty of
Tabriz University.
Although
busy with his studies he never abandoned his painting.
The
Iranian Calligraphers association accepted him as a new
member after being awarded with his calligraghy certificate
in 1982 , in 1885 he graduated from university and was
employed as a technical Engineer.
However
, Mojtaba soon realized that this wasn't exactly what he
wanted to do. His love for art led him to establish a
gallery in 1982 and a private Arts institute in 2000. He
also put in a few hours teaching university students in Azad University
(architecture institute) of Tabriz.
He
wanted to share his love for art with others.
So,
what does he have to say about himself ? "To start of
with my style was mostly realism, then I went on to
impressionism
and at the present I prefer expressionism.
My
belief is that immature artists should start by imitating
nature and to draw things as they are and them after
developing his skills he can bend the rules and be free
to express his point of view.
By looking at my 1980's paintings, you can notice the
short and reliable brush strokes. The 1990's paintings
however show faster and more expressive strokes.
Sometimes,
I prefer to use pastel. It's not like watercolors where
your brushstrokes have to be fast –paced and it's not like
oil works when you have to wait for the painting to dry.
Pastel creates beautiful soft pale tones that I can't
achieve with watercolor or oil."
Although
he is busy with his teaching , he manages to find time for
his Spanish guitar too !
In 2001
he published a biography of his father and his works.
In
his father's Biography, Mojtaba quotes:
"It's my duty to mention how I appreciate the time my dad
put aside for me, in teaching me and helping me to grow. The way he left his
art tools available to me. He was encouraging , motivating
and working with me all the way he could and I feel
indebted to him because of this .
His teaching were based on realism. But now I have
developed my own style, different from his.
Without his teaching me those valuable basics, I could
never be where I am now."
So
what dose Mojtaba actually paint about ? Well , his
inspiration is the green forests of his motherland
Azerbaijan and the beautiful nature that surrounds there rice fields of northern of Iran, fine flowers and facial
features.
His
works are displayed in his gallery and are definitely
worth seeing.
Unfortunately
, during the imposed war between Iran and Iraq, some of his
works were destroyed , However a great number of his
paintings are available for viewing today.
Mojtaba
married Roya in 1986 . He now live with his wife and two
daughters Parya and Parla in Tabriz.
